Description
The sandpaper numerals are an essential part of foundational Montessori early mathematics curriculum, using the Montessori sensorial method of teaching.
Why is it important for the Early Learner to use this material?
Around 3 years of age, the Child is ready to write. The sandpaper numerals in a box include numbers 0 to 9. The number on each board, feels like sandpaper. By tracing the number, the Child stimulates the tactile muscles in the tips of their fingers. This action; together with repeating the number out loud; helps the Child to mentally, and visually identify the shape, and name of the number.
This product focuses on learning; or recognising; the written symbol of the numerals 1 to 9. Traditionally, the zero is usually introduced with the spindle boxes. Working with concrete representations of the numbers first, children naturally absorb information through as many senses as possible. Once they are ready, they move onto working with abstract numbers.

The Sandpaper numbers are presented in a lovely box. This equipment gets regular use. Eventhough I have had my set for 3 years now, it is still in good condition.
