Description
Maria Montessori developed the sandpaper letters which are used in conjunction with The Sandpaper Letter Tracing Tray. The tray is filled with sand, and the sandpaper letter is placed next to the sand in the tray for tracing. The Child uses either their pointed index finger or a stylus to trace the letter in the tracing tray. This develops the child’s muscle memory of how to write the letter using the correct direction and lines.
As The Child traces the sandpaper letter, they say the sound, the next step is to trace the letter in the sand, copying the sandpaper letter. Thus engaging the 3 senses, visual, auditory and tactile.
The set includes fine white sand and a beech wood tray. There is a scraper to pull over the sand to spread the sand out evenly after use.
Dimensions of the tray 39cm x 25cm x 3.5cm (15½” x 10″ x 1½”)

The sand is great quality so that lines can be traced by the child properly. I also like the handle that keeps the sand flat to use again. The children seem to be able to do it themselves.
