Description

My First Book of Southern African Birds introduces children to commonly seen birds of parks, gardens and open areas of southern Africa.  The lively approach, presenting full-color illustrations of 58 birds.  Visual cues to beach bird’s size, the food it eats, its nest and the footprint it leaves behind.  The text is repeated in one of the four different languages; English, Afrikaans, Zulu and Xhosa.

In the introduction; they suggest that you take note of the following information:

  • where was the bird?
  • what was the bird doing?
  • what did the bird look like?
    • the shape of their bill
    • shape of their feet and legs?
    • colors of their plumage
  • an explanation of how to use the book

Every animal in the My First Book of Southern African Birds, lists the following information:

  • brief description of the birds
  • icons indicate
    • what the birds eat
    • the type of nests they build
    • the shape of its foot print or tracks
  • an indication of what the size of birds they are
