Island Activity Mat

Description

The Island Activity Mat is an innovative educational tool, that fosters a holistic, and integrated learning experience for children. The mat forms the basis of the project, incorporating suggested activities, questions to be researched, and answered, bringing each team members’ ideas, creative writing, and answers, together in a presentation.

To complete the Island activity, the Child must work with integrated curricula, for e.g.

mathematics,
geography,
zoology,
botany,
grammar,
2nd languages,
creative writing, etc.

Using the knowledge they currently have, they take the concept of the island, and working as a team, they expand their knowledge, and understanding to produce an integrated presentation to their classmates, once their research is complete.

The Objectives of the Island Activity Mat

the direct objective is for the Child to expand their knowledge, holistically
indirectly, they
- learn how to work independently, and as a team, being both
  - accountable to others, and
  - understanding the importance of deadlines
- enhance their cognitive skills, such as
  - problem solving, working across various curricula
  - and recognising the inter-connectedness of the world’s knowledge
- gain contextual knowledge, understanding real-world applications knowledge
- improve their ability to
  - research subjects, and
  - get assistance from their peers
  - gain communication skills
- creative thinking, and story-telling skills

Through this integrated approach, students not only gain knowledge, but also develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity.

The mat acts as a bridge between traditional academic subjects, creating a comprehensive learning experience that nurtures well-rounded, and engaged learners.
