The Water Cycle is Changing

As I write this blog, yet another storm is approaching Cape Town.  With the massive winds whipping up the ocean current against a dark forbidding background, it is almost impossible to believe that this time last year we were still encouraging our children to conserve water against what could have been “day zero”.  Instead, we are admiring the most amazing waterfalls in the mountains!

This sudden abundance of water got me thinking about where it all comes from and how easily we take it for granted.  Let us not forget the hot, dry days of “Day Zero”.  Did you know that the Mayor of Vancouver was interviewed on Cape Talk last year describing how his city is in very much similar a situation that we had been, and how the citizens were following in our footsteps to conserve their water as successfully as we did ours.

This week our featured book is “Water Cycle Adventure” and is perfect for the classroom to read together and understand where water comes from and where it goes and why we need to conserve it even when it rains in winter!  This book is also available in Afrikaans.

Keeping with the water theme, we offer land and water form trays.  The large movable alphabet – print letters goes well with the Story of Writing and as always, you can find all featured items by clicking on the link below.
