Description
Key Purposes & Benefits
-
Pincer Grip Refinement: Because the pegs are narrow, the Child cannot use their whole palm. They must use their thumb and first two fingers to grasp the peg, which directly prepares the hand for holding a pencil.
-
Vertical Alignment: Similar to the cylinder box, the peg must be perfectly vertical to enter the hole. However, because the peg is much thinner, the margin of error is smaller.
-
Spatial Judgement: The Child must judge the depth and center of the small hole.
-
Internalized Order: The set comes with 6 pegs. The Child learns to complete a cycle: posting all the pegs and starting again
How to Present the Material
-
Preparation: Sit with the Child and place the box in front of them. Place the pegs in the tray.
-
The Grasp: Pick up a peg using your thumb and index finger (exaggerating the pincer grip).
-
The Posting: Slowly move the peg over the hole and place it in. Listen for the “click” as it hits the bottom of the tray.
-
The Retrieval: Once all pegs are inside, show the Child.
-
Completion: Place the pegs back in the tray and invite the child to take a turn.
The Toddler Imbucare Peg Box consist of a tray with 6 pegs to develop hand-eye coordination and practise color sorting.
The base is made from birchply and the cylinder pegs are made from solid beechwood.

This is a far better toy than the plastic ones. I prefer to buy natural wood products.

This is probably one of the most popular toddler materials in the class. Simple yet engaging.
