Description
The tortoise; a reptile; carries it’s home around on its back. This is called a carapace. With 14 species, out of the 54 worldwide species, Southern Africa exhibits the world’s highest diversity of tortoises. However, many of these species are threatened, and not much is known about them. This product identifies the 12 different parts of a tortoise, as an activity for the Child. Tortoise remains have been traced from as far back as 250 million years ago.
This reptile family falls under the order, chelonia. Based upon the Montessori zoological curriculum, the material is colour-coded with a brown border around each card. Combining the simplicity of a 3-part cards set, a booklet; that comprehensively covers detailed descriptions about tortoises; and definition cards. It is aimed at both the 3 to 6, and the 6 to 9 environments.
