Description
Like other sensorial materials, the trinomial cube is self correcting. Using the placement mat, the Child has a dedicated work area and control to aid their spatial awareness. When properly assembled, the cubes and prisms form a large cube that fits perfectly inside of its wooden box!
The trinomial cube is generally introduced towards the middle or end of the Child’s 2nd year of a Montessori early learners’ program (3-6), after the binomial cube has been mastered. Once again, this new sensorial activity appears to be complex; but through the hands-on method of teaching, the Child will soon master the process of completing the cube. To aid the Guide and the Child, we present an extension to this core material, a Trinomial Cube Placement Mat. This mat is an additional control to that of the lid of the box that stores the cube. The placement mat also acts as a defined work-space and a guide to understand how to reconstruct the cube.
The purpose of the trinomial cube placement mat, is not to teach mathematics, but to challenge the child to find patterns and spatial relationships. It is best to think of these as three-dimensional puzzles. Indirectly, the Child is being prepared for the mathematical formula (a + b + c)³ = (a + b + c) (a + b + c) (a + b + c) = a³ + 3a²b + 3a²c + b³ + 3b²a + 3b²c + c³ + 3c²a + 3c²b + 6abc.
The direct purpose of this material is to help develop a child’s visual discrimination, one of the 9 senses Montessori focuses on, indirectly, the Child absorbs the complexity of mathematics.
Size of the Mat – 89 x 56 cm / (35″ x 22″)

This is such a useful mat when demonstrating the trinomial blocks. And what makes it better, I can put it in the wash.

The trinomial mat is easy to use and helps kids learn the layout of the blocks when unpacking.

The mat is useful to guide the trinomial activity, and what is a benefit, is that it doesnt take up much space on the shelf.
