About the School

Butler Montessori is seeking an AMI-trained Lower Elementary (LE) Guide (ages 6-9) to join our established Montessori program, beginning in August 2026. An earlier start date may be considered for the right candidate.

Located on a beautiful 22-acre campus adjacent to Seneca Creek State Park, Butler Montessori provides a rich natural learning environment with wooded trails, gardens, a pond, and an equestrian program that support both academic and experiential learning.

For more than 50 years Butler Montessori has served families in the Washington DC region. Over the past several years the school has expanded its program to offer a complete Montessori pathway from infancy through high school, building a strong and cohesive Montessori community.

Position Overview

The Butler Montessori AMI LE Guide will lead a Montessori classroom serving students ages 6–9 within our Elementary program.

Next year the classroom will include approximately 24–27 students, balanced across the three-year age cycle. The Guide will work alongside an experienced Elementary team within a program that includes four Elementary environments: two Lower Elementary and two Upper Elementary classrooms.  The environment will have a full time assistant as well as support staff who see to lunch and recess.

The successful candidate will create and maintain a prepared environment that fosters independence, intellectual curiosity, and collaborative learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain a prepared Montessori Lower Elementary classroom
  • Present lessons aligned with the Montessori Elementary curriculum
  • Support the academic, social, and emotional development of students
  • Foster independence, responsibility, and collaborative learning
  • Work closely with colleagues and school leadership within the Elementary program
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students

Ideal Candidate

  • AMI Elementary Diploma.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with children aged 6–12.
  • Strong understanding of Montessori philosophy and Elementary materials.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Candidates must already hold AMI Elementary training.

Compensation & Start

  • Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • This salary range reflects a 12 month position, including participation in the school’s summer program.
