Description
The first fabric box with multicolour squares, is an activity that helps the Child to refine their tactile senses. Through touch, the child learns to refine their tactile sense, and learn how to describe the textures of the squares.

- the direct objective, is for the Child to;
- match one fabric square to another like square, through touch
- indirectly, the Child;
- develops their sensory discrimination skills
- improves their cognitive (problem-solving) skills
- this activity supports the Montessori sensorial curriculum
- materials like this might generate great discussions between the children, improving their language and sensory skills
It is possible that the child’s vocabulary could improve if they can describe the texture of each piece of fabric whilst matching it, although this is not the main objective of the activity.
Contents of The First Fabric Box – Multicolour:
- 12 sets of fabrics
- each set has
- 2 squares of identical fabric matching in texture, and colour
- a plywood box, with a loose lid to store the fabric squares

- fabric squares – 11cm x 11cm / (4¼” x 4¼”)
- birch ply wood box with a loose lid – 17.5cm x 17.5cm x 3.5cm / (6¾” x 6¾” x 1¼”)
