Why is the Braiding Board so Important?
The Braiding Board is one of the most famous resources to be found on the Montessori Practical Life shelf of most classrooms. Fastened on the wooden board are 3 rope-like strings in 3 different colours, ready to teach the Child to braid, and so, improve their fine motor muscles, and problem solving skills.
Benefits to the Child
- the main objective is to teach the Child how to braid
- indirectly, this activity helps to develop their
- concentration, and problem solving skills
- further development of coordination, and fine motor muscle control
- knowing how to braid makes the Child more independent, and also boosts their self-esteem
- braiding is the same as plaiting.
Features of the Braiding Board
- made from pine wood
- 3 thick strands; of different coloured, rope-like string; secured to the top of the board
- on the base of the board are non-slip strips to prevent it slipping
