Description
The State Flags of the USA – 3-part cards, illustrate the origins of the United States of America. Flags of the U.S. States, territories and the District of Columbia exhibit a variety of regional influences and local histories. Children can find symbols reflecting things of interest from their state, on these flags. The majority of the states’ flags share the same design pattern; a state seal superimposed on a monochrome background, commonly a shade of blue.
Many states realize they need to change some symbols of their past. Mississippi, the state flag that changed most recently, was adopted on January 22, 2021. The most recent territorial flag to change, that of the northern Mariana Islands, was adopted on July 1, 1985.
A state’s flag is its emblem.
Therefore, most flag designs include geographical features, historical dates, or symbols of industries that best represent the state. Though state flags have their own combination of colours, shapes and symbols; all U.S. state flags are rectangular, with one exception, the pennant-shaped state flag of Ohio.
A big influence from the earliest time in American history is Native American culture, apparent in several flags; as well as state names. This is how each state got its name.
State flags of USA 3-part cards help children in the 3 to 6 environment. Studying the complex and intricate designs and colours of the different state flags, they absorb this knowledge. Matching the images and labels to the control cards, the Child studies the designs. The Child subconsciously retains this knowledge.
