What do we use the Short Bead Chains for?
The Short Bead Chains are part of the Montessori Math curriculum. The exercises of the Short Bead Chains prepare the child for multiplication as they ‘skip-count’ through the bead chains. Skip counting is the method of counting numbers by ‘skipping’ other numbers, i.e. count in “2’s”, i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.
Objectives of using the Chains
This lesson promotes order, and sequencing, as well as fine, and gross motor muscle development. Furthermore, it indirectly helps prepare the Child to understand squaring numbers.
Contents of the Short Bead Chains
There are ten differently coloured bead chains, one for each number, starting at 1 to 10. Children indirectly memorise the colours to the number sequencing, so they will instinctively know that the pink bead stair has 3 beads. This aids their learning process.
