Description
The sequencing of Montessori learning materials, from the simplest to the most challenging, helps children develop skills. This Pattern Activity, another example of sequencing materials, has a great fun aspect to it. A floor mat with 5 rows of patterns, which grow in complexity, as the Child completes each row. Once the Child has recognised the pattern, they find the cards that match the printed pattern on the mat and replicate the pattern until it’s completed.
Features of the Pattern Activity:
- the direct objective for the Child:
- sequencing activities help the Child to understand and arrange patterns of actions, ideas and thoughts
- indirectly, the Child develops new motor, cognitive, and social skills
- examples of patterns; trees, leaves, flowers, geometric shapes, everyday objects
- this activity forms part of the Montessori mathematics and language curriculum
