Parts of a Roundworm Activity

Free-living Roundworms, are mainly found in freshwater habitats.  Some however, live in soil.  They generally feed on bacteria, fungi, protozoans, or decaying organic matter.  Based upon the Montessori zoological curriculum, the roundworm belongs to the Nematoda family, and the card material is colour-coded with an olive green border around each card.

Description

One of the main roles of a roundworm, is to break down dead; or decaying matter; but they can also be a pest to animals; and vegetables; or cause illness in humans.  This activity, the Parts of a Roundworm Activity, expands the Child’s knowledge of the phyla, Nematoda; and improves vocabulary skills; as they now work, exclusively, with these abstract materials.

The activity set introduces a booklet; which provides an overview of the subject matter; definition cards, and 3-part cards.  Depending upon the development of the Child, parts of this activity can presented to the 3 to 6 year old, but it is mainly aimed at the 6 to 9 environment.
