Description
The Parts of a Horseshoe Crab Activity, provides the Child with the correct terminology for the ten main parts making up the Horseshoe Crab, and includes many interesting facts. Another term used to describe the Horseshoe Crab is a ‘living fossil‘; they have been traced back to over 445 million years ago; making them older than the dinosaurs. They are amongst the first arthropods to have walked out of the ocean to settle on land. To the best of our knowledge, they hold the Arthropod blueprint; a hard exoskeleton; segmented body, and jointed legs. This arthropod basic body-type is still the same, 445 million years later.
Based upon the Montessori zoological curriculum, Horseshoe crabs are closer to the arachnids than crabs, and belong to the Arthropoda phylum, Chelicerata. The material is colour-coded with a yellow border around each card. Combining the simplicity of a 3-part card set, a booklet; that comprehensively covers detailed descriptions about horseshoe crabs; and definition cards. It is aimed at both the 3 to 6, and the 6 to 9 environments.
