Description
My First Book of Southern African Seashore Life introduces more than 50 of the diverse creatures and plants found on beaches and in rock pools along the southern African coastline, such as anemones, limpets, sea slugs, seaweeds and many others. It provides visual clues, along with simple text on their behavior and habits. Each page features vivid, full-color illustrations, informative text and visual clues to creatures’ size, diet, and where to find them. The text is repeated in one of the four different languages; English, Afrikaans, Zulu and Xhosa.
In the introduction; you find snippets of information:
- a general description of what happens to the shore line at high tide and at low tide
- an explanation of what tides are
- ideas of what to look for when you visit the seashore
- an explanation of how to use the book
Every animal in the My First Book of Southern African Seashore Life, lists the following information:
- brief description of the creatures found in the rock pools and along the sea shore
- warnings if the creepy-crawly is dangerous to humans either through poison or by biting us
- icons indicate along which coast line they can be found
- indications of what they eat
- one of 4 icons, (a hand, hand and wrist, a forearm or a man) indicates the size of the sea creatures
- an indication of where, along the seashore they live, i.e. in rock pools or sand dunes, etc.
