Description
The Life Cycle of an Earthworm Objects features the four stages of a surprisingly complex creature. These objects form an integral part of the Montessori teaching, providing a tangible learning resource for the Child. Handling the objects, their muscles absorb the look and feel of the individual parts of the earthworms, allowing them to always visualise the objects when earthworms are mentioned.
Their lemon-shaped eggs give birth to hatchlings, which slowly grow to juveniles. Months later, they become adult earthworms, capable of beginning the cycle anew. The activity of the earthworms in the soil, directly improves the quality of the soil and the availability of nutrients to the plants. Their digestive system concentrates the organic and mineral constituents in the food they eat, so their casts are richer in available nutrients than the soil around them. Nitrogen is readily, and naturally, available to the plants, reducing the need for fertilizer.
