Description
What is the Leaf Puzzle Activity?
Activity sets are based upon the botany and zoological puzzles used in the Montessori classroom. Introduce the Child to the wonderful world of leaves through this Leaf Puzzle Activity. It extends their knowledge from the concrete through to the abstract learnings of vocabulary.
Toddlers use the puzzle (as the concrete materials) to explore the anatomy of a leaf. The 3 to 6 environment moves onto this Leaf Puzzle Activity as an extension to the puzzle. This product enhances the Child’s enjoyment of learning. Working this exercise, prepares the Child for reading and (indirectly) writing.
All the puzzle activities are color-coded and aligned to the standard classification of the plant kingdom. This material will prepare the Child for the botany lower elementary class.
Suggested Activity Exercises:
- After working with the leaf puzzle, the Child familiarises themselves with the labelled control sheet, placing each part of the puzzle on top of the line image of the leaf.
- Next step; match the label to the parts of the leaf on the unlabeled sheet.
- As a bit of fun, have the Child build the puzzle on the work table and use the labels to label the parts as they say the word.
- Further, they can use the labels to name the various parts on the images of the real leaves.
- The last step is for the Child to familiarize themselves with the 3-part card set.
- The Child will enjoy tracing around the puzzle parts and colouring them in.
- Make a copy of the unlabeled control sheet. Give the Child a label and ask them to copy the word next to the part of the leaf on the copy of this unlabeled control sheet and to colour it in.
- The Child searches for a similar leaf in the garden, and uses the labels to name the parts on that leaf.

I was so thrilled to know that my existing leaf puzzle matched this activity. Precision is everything in Montessori and the team at Childrens House have really taken this to a new level.

The quality of the print is really good. I used to make my own cards and nomenclatures from downloadable websites. But having now seen the quality of the pictures that Childrens House use for their products, I have stopped making my own material. I am definitely budgetting to buy more from Childrens House.
