Description
The midline is an invisible line that dissects your body, from the brain to the feet. The Lazy 8 Finger Tracing board is a practical product to help the development of midline crossing. This activity will help children to transition to writing, reading and other daily tasks.
Why is Crossing Midline so Important?
So often, we only realise our Child is struggling, when they get to school. For example, if they battle with writing, reading, and catching a ball, it is indicative of poor developmental progress, from birth, with crossing the bodies’ midline.

Objectives of the Lazy 8 Finger Tracing
- direct objective – to trace the horizontal 8, without lifting their finger off the board, following the direction of the arrow
- indirectly, the Child is;
- improving their bilateral integration; i.e. using both sides of the body, at the same time
- activating both brain hemispheres and encouraging them to work together
- improving their fine-motor muscles, hand-eye coordination, and spatial orientation.
Make sure the Child’s hand starts in the middle of the loop, and follows the direction of the arrow. Placing one hand on the board ensures the board is stable, and will not slide around.
