The Land Of The Parts Of Speech is a wonderful ring-bound book that presents a story about a King and his village. The story is used to illustrate 9 different parts of speech; articles, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, pronouns.
In the teachings of Maria Montessori, she developed physical forms to illustrate each part of speech; these are the Grammar Symbols. The story may change, but the parts of speech take the abstract forms of speech into a concrete form to help the child discover the function of words and how to classify them. They are able to discover their function spontaneously with a simple introduction. This indirect preparation provides a strong base, to which further discoveries are added.
This book was written in the form of a fairy tale, that helps familiarize children with the various parts of speech. It originates from a lecture given by Mario Montessori at a course at the German Montessori Association in Frankfurt, Germany in the late 1950’s.
