Description
Note, the “Klok Oefening – 3 Deel Kaarte”, an activity, for children studying Afrikaans either as as a 1st or 2nd language.
After the Child has mastered the concrete experience of numbers 1 to 12; and grasped the abstract understanding of using symbols to reflect numbers, then they can begin to learn how to tell the time. This activity is based upon the traditional classified cards system used by the Montessori curriculum, and introduces the Child to the 12 hour analog clock.
Young children may not understand “time”, but they most certainly grasp the fundamental sensorial meaning of time. The Child believes that time is measured by actions, movement, how long (or short) it will be and it’s importance. “Time to wake up, to eat, sleep, to go to the park or to work. Many parents/guardians say we will leave in 5 minutes, this is meaningless to the young child. Rather, provide a context of what must be completed prior to departure, i.e. “we will leave after you have fastened your shoes and I put the dog into the garden”.
