Use the Inset Board – 25 cm x 15 cm with the metal insets. As a 3-year old, one of the most important skills The Child has to develop is the finger grip and how to draw shapes. This will aid the Child in developing this skill.
A piece of paper is placed upon the inset board. The Child chooses the metal inset shape of their choice, and selecting the coloured pencil from the edge of the inset board, uses the shape to draw the outline.
The metal insets are a preparation for handwriting and for geometry, but they are equally important as a material children use for creative design. Look for combinations of geometric shapes, the use of negative space, and experimentation with shading and coloring as your child grows in his or her comfort with this simple and elegant Montessori material.
