Description
The Geometric Solids Activity Set has questions to give the Child the opportunity to practice working with the blue geometric solids and geometric plane figures. The geometric solids help the Child to recognise and understand both the form and nature of objects through touch. There is no control of error for touch, the solid shapes are the control in themselves. The control book for the geometric solids is a useful tool to help the Child to transistion from the concrete to the abstract.
The direct objective:
- the Child absorbs innate knowledge of these Montessori materials through stereognostic touch, as they answer the questions
- nomenclature of these shapes is entrenched through the exercises
- geometric concepts are introduced through the activities
Indirectly, the Child gains confidence, focus and improves their self-esteem as they answer increasingly complex questions. This knowledge provides the foundation for future work in geometry, and forms part of the Montessori curriculum in both the sensorial and mathematics categories.
Features of Geometric Solids Activity Set:
- the exercises challenge the Child’s stereognostic sense
- eight levels of questions allow the Child to work at their own level of ability
- clear visual differences between the shapes acts as the control of error
- the shapes help the Child/ren to correct their own work
- the questions build the Child’s vocabulary
