The fractions activity set B, continues where set A left off.  This set of questions focuses on equations, and this activity introduces some simple examples, which increase in complexity.

The questions convert images depicting concrete fractions, into those in the abstract, mathematical format.  In other words, the Child gains a greater understanding of fractions.  With understanding comes confidence; and self-esteem; by developing the skills to enable them to complete fairly complex equations, including improper fractions.

Features of the Fractions Activity – Set B

• the direct objective of this activity for the Child, is:
  • to complete mathematical equations using proper fractions, and improper fractions
• indirectly, the Child:
  • immediately recognises fractions, regardless whether they are in a concrete, or abstract form
  • develops a greater understanding of the numerator, and denominator
  • can instinctively calculate improper fractions
  • improves their problem solving skills
• aimed at the 6 to 9 environment
• this activity supports the Montessori mathematics curriculum

• The metal fraction circle, featured for illustrative purposes, is sold separately.
• 5 header cards, dividing each level of question
• 44 cards depicting fractions as an equation
• the answers of these equations are on the back of each card
• sold in an acrylic stand for storage
