Despite the wonderful intentions on the Rights of the Child, as adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 30 November 1989; nations, figures of authority, teachers, parents, appear to still fail The Child.
Seeing this lack of ability to put The Child first, Renilde Montessori together with Hilla Patell and Camillo Grazzini organised the first EsF Assembly (Educateurs sans Frontières) in 1999.
This assembly was held at the Villa Montesca in Citta di Castello, Italy, where in 1909 Maria Montessori had conducted her first training course. The assembly was a six-week intense study and reflection. It resulted in the formalisation of Educateurs sans Frontières as a part of AMI.
Do not be deluded by the playful light-hearted stories told in the ensuing chapters, these stories all convey a very serious underlying message, providing an insightful theoretical basis for the concept of Educateurs sans Frontières
“We will encourage education and understanding of our relationship within the universe. We seek ways of design and planning that marry with these values and prevail in our endeavour to create a lasting, healthy world.” The final words from the EsF Sustainability Statement
