Description
This is the fourth of a new range of reading books, the Childrens Readers: Grade 2. These books form part of the Key Links series, aligned to the CAPS curriculum. Capture the children’s interest through these engaging stories e.g. robot landing on Mars, recycling, dolphins to the rescue, etc. At this age, the story is paramount. Children empathize with the emotions that are reflected in the story line. These books expose them to real-life adventures in realistic settings. This will increase their knowledge and prompt them to read more stories.
These books are suitable for the teacher to read to the class as a whole or to sit with an individual child.
The six books cover a variety of subjects. All the book use true-to-life visuals and are contextually accurate. The titles listed below increase in complexity and range from the early reader to that of the more advanced.
- Dolphins to the Rescue – an adventure story about a surfer, who was attacked by sharks, and rescued by dolphins.
- In a Nutshell – this book describes how useful a nut can be, feeding many different animals in various ways.
- Moving Seeds – explains how seeds can move to a different place with the wind, water, people and animals.
- A Big Earthquake – exposes children to earthquakes and the after-effects, it also explains what to do in an earthquake.
- Rubbish in the River – this book discusses the water cycle, the need for clean drinking water and plastic pollution in the rivers and oceans.
- Robot Lander on Mars – explore a new planet through this book, introducing the solar system to the Child.

All the books in the Childrens Readers: Grade 2 series, are language rich, with high quality realistic photographs demonstrating the story or theme. These books are suitable for the teacher to read to the class as a whole or to sit with an individual child. The preview panel (on the right hand side of every double page), prompts the reader to focus on the following, (if they want to):
