Pouring Tray - Variation 1

Pouring Tray - Variation 2

Pouring from Large Jug into 3 small glasses

Another way to describe why we have variations of transferring activities is to talk about a “graded force” activity.

Graded force is the ability to adjust how much pressure to place on an object or person, based on feedback from the environment.

Being able to ‘grade’ or adjust your force is reliant upon having a good sense of body awareness and a solid proprioceptive system.  This is what a toddler of three must develop, by instinct and practice.

Once the Child has mastered pouring liquids between 2 large jugs, they can move onto slightly more complex exercises.  An example is pouring into a single glass.  To make the task easier it can be done by spooning the liquid from the jug to the glass.

Variation 2 requires sufficient experience to pour into 3 glasses.  Once again, you can spoon the liquid from the jug into 3 small bowls.

To make the exercise more complex use different sizes and shapes of glasses.
