This week, we get to celebrate 2 events. On the 21st September the world celebrates the International Day of Peace. The General Assembly of the United Nations declared this day as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This year, the theme is “Climate Action for Peace”. According to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, “Today, peace faces a new danger: the climate emergency, which threatens our security, our livelihoods and our lives.”
Childrens House support Climate Action for Peace by focussing on the reduction and where possible, the rejection of plastic. Support our actions by joining our Facebook Group “Sustaining Ubuntu” and tell us what the children in your classrooms or at home are doing to support a plastic-free environment where they live.
24th September, Heritage Day is a day for celebration! It is also a day for remembrance and reflection on how we got to this point in our lives. History, a study of the past, gives us our Heritage the achievements and accomplishments of our ancestors. One cannot live without the other.
The philosophical sense of Ubuntu “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity” is part of our heritage but we must practice it with each other to reinforce the ethos. Let us celebrate our diversities that make us a nation of people, part of the whole global village.
Cherish and be proud of our heritage as a nation while considering the relevance Heritage has in our lives. Let us enjoy our braais, potjies or traditional indigenous feasts with family and friends in Peace and Harmony.
Childrens House features their new printed materials from the XCurricula range, 8 Phases of the Moon. This item includes classified cards, control chart, activity chart and description cards – all specifically designed to incorporate into the Montessori and CAPS curriculum in beautifully designed and illustrated art works.
