Yellow can represent happiness as well. Yellow flowers bring joy and happiness. It can also bring warmth; such as yellow lighting in a home.

Green:

For many people, the color green means nature and brings to mind lush grass, trees, and forests. Green is often described as refreshing and tranquil. Other common associations with the color green are money, luck, health, and envy.

The colour green is calming. For this reason you will find green in a lot of restuarants. It is associated with nature. In the early days humans saw green as food, water, and shelter.

In stoplights, green indicates safety and permission to go, whereas red means “stop.” In turn, the expression “to give the green light” conveys approval.

Paper money is green in the United States, where the color is also associated with Irish-American culture, St. Patrick’s Day, and good luck. Interestingly, one study found green may function as a good luck charm of sorts. Participants exposed to the color green experienced increased feelings of hope and decreased fear of failure.

For as much as green is associated with positive feelings, it can also indicate jealousy. You’ve probably heard the expression “green with envy.” The origins of this phrase are unclear.

Green can also indicate physical illness, such as when someone’s complexion turns green. The link between green and illness might have created the association between green and envy—as if envy were an illness of its own.

  • Bright green: Rebirth, spring
  • Olive green: Tranquility, earthiness, elegance
  • Dark green: Fertility, greed, money, drive
  • Yellowish green: Illness, envy, decay
  • Aqua: Cleanliness, freshness, water
  • Pale green: Peace

Black:

“I always prefer a very dark grey to pure #000. The choice might look personal, but here’s the theory behind it:

There are very little 100% black things in nature. All black objects you see have some for of light reflected on them, shadows are never completely black.

When you #000 in a design, it overpowers the other colors. It attracts too much attention, because it is not natural. Of course a website is not natural, but the brain reacts in a similar way nonetheless.”

Black has a wide range of associations. It can be linked with death, mourning, evil magic, and darkness, but it can also symbolize elegance, wealth, restraint, and power. As the first pigment used by artists in prehistory and the first ink used by book printers, black played an important role in the development of art and literature.

The color black is associated with a number of positive qualities and characteristics. For example, some common associations with the color black is associated include:

  • Authority
  • Elegance
  • Formality
  • Intelligence
  • Power
  • Prestige
  • Sophistication

The color is often described as strong and elegant. The color oozes sophistication. That’s why many people don black clothing when attending a fancy event. It’s also why high-end brands like Tiffany & Co. and Chanel utilize black in their logos.

However. the connection between black and negativity is probably most clearly seen in our language. Just consider these commonly used expressions: Black Monday. Black Plague. Black magic. Blackball. Blackhole. Black-hearted. Black mood. Black sheep. Blackmail. Black market. Blackout. The list could go on.

And nothing says “bad guy” quite like the color black. Though black is worn (and often preferred) by people from all walks of society, it’s often seen as the stereotypical color for criminals and villains. Why do you think the color of choice for villains (think Dracula and Darth Vader) and other shady movie and TV show characters is almost always black?
