About the School

Founded in 1974, Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR), together with Carolina Preparatory Academy, serves over 400 students from 15 months through Grade 12.

MSR offers a fully developed Montessori program from Toddler through Upper Elementary on a 10-acre campus in North Raleigh. Carolina Preparatory Academy provides an International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programme on a separate campus in Durham.

The school is guided by the values of Respect, Integrity, Community, and Love of Learning and is accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and Cognia, and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

The Role

Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) is seeking an experienced and Montessori-trained Lower Elementary Lead Guide to join our faculty for the 2026–2027 school year.

This is a key role within a well-established Lower Elementary program. The successful candidate will lead a classroom serving children aged 6–9 and will be responsible for delivering a high-fidelity Montessori experience that supports each child’s academic, social, and emotional development.

This position is particularly important as it follows a long-tenured teacher, and the school is seeking a guide who can sustain continuity while bringing depth of experience and professionalism to the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain a purposeful Montessori Lower Elementary environment
  • Deliver the Montessori curriculum with fidelity and depth
  • Support the academic, social, and emotional development of each child
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, lesson plans, and progress reports
  • Partner effectively with the classroom assistant, providing clear guidance and expectations
  • Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and student support services
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and use data to inform instruction
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents to support strong home–school relationships
  • Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings, and professional development
  • Contribute to parent education events and the broader school community
  • Commit to one week of the SummerScape program (Summer 2027)

Program Overview

  • Four Lower Elementary classrooms
  • Lead Guide supported by a dedicated Assistant (non co-teaching model)
  • Robust interdisciplinary program including Spanish, Art, Technology, Physical Education, and Suzuki music
  • Strong student support services including a school psychologist and intervention specialists
  • Collaborative team structure with divisional leadership and regular team meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Montessori Elementary (6–12) credential (AMS, AMI, or MACTE accredited)
  • Minimum of three years of Lower Elementary teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to authentic Montessori practice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful school community

Schedule and Additional Expectations

  • Standard hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
